How to Get to the Royal Palace of Madrid
The Ópera station (Lines 2, 5, and R) is the closest metro stop, located just a 5-minute walk from the palace entrance. Alternatively, you can get off at Santo Domingo (Line 2), which is about 7 minutes away. Madrid’s metro is a fast and affordable way to reach the palace.
Several EMT Madrid buses stop near the palace. The most convenient routes are:

If you’re arriving from outside the city, take a Cercanías (commuter train) to Príncipe Pío Station (Lines C1, C7, and C10). From there, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the palace. Príncipe Pío is also connected to metro lines 6, 10, and R, allowing for an easy transfer if needed.
A taxi is a convenient option, especially if you’re traveling from Madrid’s airport or train stations. A ride from Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) to the palace takes around 25–30 minutes and costs a flat rate of €30. From Atocha Train Station, the ride takes about 10–15 minutes and costs between €8–€12, depending on traffic. Taxis in Madrid are widely available and can be hailed on the street or booked through apps like FREE NOW or Cabify.
Driving to the Royal Palace is possible, but parking is very limited in the area. The best options are:
- Plaza de Oriente Parking (right in front of the palace)
- Parking Público San Quintín (a 5-minute walk away)
- Parking Plaza de España (about 8 minutes away, with more spaces available)
Keep in mind that Madrid has low-emission zones, so check restrictions before driving into the city center.
